Why training in groups leads to better outcomes

Why training in groups leads to better outcomes.

There are many benefits to exercising in a group. We know that people who work out in groups are more likely to make it a habit, stick to their exercise routine for longer and achieve better results than those who train on their own.

Small group training allows you to experience the results and benefits of personal training with friends and at fraction of the cost. The very nature of small group training sessions means that the coach can adjust exercises and movements according to each participants fitness, experience or injuries.

So, why is exercising in groups more effective than training on your own?

Buddies help make it a habit.

Working out with friends is always more fun than working out alone. Whether it be the comfort of knowing you’re all in it together or the social aspect of group fitness that you enjoy, habits are easier to form when they are enjoyable.

Being accountable to your workout buddies is a strong motivator, often more so than membership fees. This increased accountability helps motivate you to keep showing up,  and putting in the effort over a longer period which in turn delivers better results.

Friendly competition.

A little friendly competition can boost the intensity of your effort. When you train with others you can measure your progress against yourself and others in the group. It helps you to be more realistic in your goal setting, how you are progressing and most importantly, you get real-time feedback from your peers.

In small group training, you get to share and celebrate your own achievements as well as those of others. There is nothing quite like a satisfying group high five when you reach a milestone and seeing others reach their goals motivates you to keep working towards yours.

Mates are motivating.

Training as part of a group can help motivate you to get started and continue with a fitness program. If you enjoy exercise and the way you feel afterwards, you are more likely to stick to it. Exercising with other people can supply that enjoyment, even if the activity itself is difficult. Group exercise can turn working out into a fun social activity which can lead to you continuing to do it.

We have really only scratched the surface here on why group training is so effective. There are a number of studies by sports psychologists that delve much deeper into the psychology of why exercising in groups helps people to achieve better outcomes. We see it first-hand every day in the gym. If you want to see if it works for you, sign up for a two week trial and experience it for yourself.
